Sephora Goodies

With the shelves stocked to capacity with hundreds of beauty and skincare products dressed in shiny, sleek packaging, it’s quite easy to get sucked into Sephora for hours. A few weeks ago, I went to Sephora and was determined not to spend half of my paycheck in there. And guess what? I didn’t! This time, I spent under $100 and left with my new buys and without an ounce of guilt, proving that it is possible to shop at Sephora and not overspend. Here’s what I got…

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation

My complexion falls somewhere between the caramel and cinnamon color range, so it can be tough finding a foundation that matches up with my skin tone perfectly. Although I hear drugstore foundations have improved drastically in terms of shade offerings for Black women in recent years, I haven’t bought a foundation from the drugstore in like five years. Basically, I’ve given up on drugstore foundations and now I only wear higher-end foundations. One of my absolute favorites is the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation. It’s incredibly impressive in terms of coverage and build-ability. I wear shade Y425 and even though it can appear a tad too dark after oxidation when worn alone, it feels gloriously lightweight on the skin and covers up my deepest, darkest acne scars in the most unbelievable way. I dot this foundation onto blemishes, pat it in with a flat foundation brush, and then follow up with a thin layer of MAC’s Studio Fix Fluid Foundation in NC42. Afterwards, my complexion is HD-TV ready and remains flawless throughout the day. Price-wise, this foundation is ridiculously expensive at $43 for just one bottle, but I swear it’s worth it if you’re looking for a high coverage liquid foundation that lasts throughout the day.

Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray

My skin gets so disgustingly oily when I wear foundation that it’s gotten to the point where I don’t even slap on moisturizer on days I’m wearing foundation. To fix this issue, I’ve been on the hunt for a makeup setting spray that mattifies my skin and keeps my makeup from looking like it’s about to slide off my face as soon as I step out the house. I’ve already tried NYX’s Matte Finish Makeup Setting Spray and e.l.f.’s Makeup Mist & Set Spray, and neither product does it for me. Apparently the beauty gurus of YouTube swear by Urban Decay’s setting sprays, so I scooped up their De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray (the travel-size version) while I was in the checkout line at Sephora. Before swiping my debit card, I asked the cashier her honest opinion on the spray and she told me that it’s a best-seller. Since buying it, I’ve used it every single day that I’ve worn makeup and so far, so good. I think it works! A full report with all my thoughts and feelings about this product is sure to come to the blog at a later date.

When’s the last time you visited Sephora? What did you buy? How much did you spend? Do you find it hard to resist the urge to splurge when you’re at Sephora? Tell me in the comments.

Sooo, its been about a month since I’ve been to Sephora and I purchased the Kat Von D tattoo liner and some clearance items. My total came to about $33. For the most part its easy for me to go in and buy exactly what I want and then other times not so much! I’ve been under control lately. I wonder how long this will last tho? Lol.

Sephora has a clearance selection??!?! I never knew that. That’s what I’ve come to realize about me and Sephora (and Ulta, too). I have to go in with a list of things to buy already written out, otherwise I’ll walk out with $200 worth of stuff. I seldom wear eyeliner these days but I’ve heard a lot about the Kat Von D Tattoo Eyeliner; one YouTube beauty vlogger said that’s the only black liner she uses.

I’ve basically joined the world of make up so this post was super helpful! My BareMineral’s foundation just spilled for the 2nd damn time – tragic- so I’m looking to try something different.

I’ve never had the experience of spilling foundation; I don’t know that tragedy! I’d die because foundation is way too expensive. You seem more of a BB cream wearer to me. Next time you’re in Sephora, I’d ask about their BB creams. They offer coverage but are lightweight and more suitable for everyday wear. Thanks for reading, boo!
