With the shelves stocked to capacity with hundreds of beauty and skincare products dressed in shiny, sleek packaging, it’s quite easy to get sucked into Sephora for hours. A few weeks ago, I went to Sephora and was determined not to spend half of my paycheck in there. And guess what? I didn’t! This time, I spent under $100 and left with my new buys and without an ounce of guilt, proving that it is possible to shop at Sephora and not overspend. Here’s what I got…
Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation
My complexion falls somewhere between the caramel and cinnamon color range, so it can be tough finding a foundation that matches up with my skin tone perfectly. Although I hear drugstore foundations have improved drastically in terms of shade offerings for Black women in recent years, I haven’t bought a foundation from the drugstore in like five years. Basically, I’ve given up on drugstore foundations and now I only wear higher-end foundations. One of my absolute favorites is the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation. It’s incredibly impressive in terms of coverage and build-ability. I wear shade Y425 and even though it can appear a tad too dark after oxidation when worn alone, it feels gloriously lightweight on the skin and covers up my deepest, darkest acne scars in the most unbelievable way. I dot this foundation onto blemishes, pat it in with a flat foundation brush, and then follow up with a thin layer of MAC’s Studio Fix Fluid Foundation in NC42. Afterwards, my complexion is HD-TV ready and remains flawless throughout the day. Price-wise, this foundation is ridiculously expensive at $43 for just one bottle, but I swear it’s worth it if you’re looking for a high coverage liquid foundation that lasts throughout the day.
Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray
My skin gets so disgustingly oily when I wear foundation that it’s gotten to the point where I don’t even slap on moisturizer on days I’m wearing foundation. To fix this issue, I’ve been on the hunt for a makeup setting spray that mattifies my skin and keeps my makeup from looking like it’s about to slide off my face as soon as I step out the house. I’ve already tried NYX’s Matte Finish Makeup Setting Spray and e.l.f.’s Makeup Mist & Set Spray, and neither product does it for me. Apparently the beauty gurus of YouTube swear by Urban Decay’s setting sprays, so I scooped up their De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray (the travel-size version) while I was in the checkout line at Sephora. Before swiping my debit card, I asked the cashier her honest opinion on the spray and she told me that it’s a best-seller. Since buying it, I’ve used it every single day that I’ve worn makeup and so far, so good. I think it works! A full report with all my thoughts and feelings about this product is sure to come to the blog at a later date.
